Negev is a huge desert area that covers southern Israel. Although it’s the least populated area in the State of Israel, Negev is full of interesting places for tourists into desert scenery, ancient ruins, and nightlife. In this article, we’ll give you a few ideas on how to make the most of your vacation to Negev Israel.
Relax On The Red Sea At Eilat
The city of Eilat has the distinction of being both the only Israeli city on the Red Sea and the southernmost city in Israel. This gorgeous resort town has plenty of things to see and do for beach-loving tourists. Besides the snorkeling in the coral reefs, some of the major tourist draws in this city include the Underwater Observatory, Dolphin Reef, and Ice Mall (yes, they actually have an indoor ice rink in Eilat!). You can also easily book hiking, biking, and jeep tours of the nearby Eilat Mountains Nature Reserve.
Be’er Sheva: A Sacred City
One often-overlooked city in Negev is called Be’er Sheva. According to the Torah, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob spent many years living in this city. You can actually visit a well that’s believed to have been constructed by Abraham in Be’er Sheva’s Old Town. A few other interesting things to do in this Biblical city include visiting the Israeli Air Force Museum, the Negev Zoo, and the Tel Be’er Sheva Archeological Park. Thanks to the high number of students in the city, Be’er Sheva is also well-known for its hot nightlife.
Marvel At Byzantine Architecture in Shivta National Park
Located in the city of Ezuz, Shivta National Park has some of the most impressive ruins in all of Negev. As you tour this huge park, you’ll see the remains of awe-inspiring Byzantine churches and homes. Excavated in the 1930s, this city is still a bit of a mystery to archeologists. Amazingly, the people who lived in Shivta National Park didn’t have access to natural water. Definitely don’t neglect to visit this fascinating park while in Negev.
